How should I choose my personal property value?

I am going to purchase renters insurance. One of the questions is to select a personal property value. How should I choose the right amount?

Theoretically, you should choose the total value of your personal stuff for your personal property. Personal property is one of the major factors for your renters insurance price. Therefore, you can also balance your selection with the premium that works best for you. Most insurance companies can allow you to choose a range between $5k to $50k.

One important thing, however, is that you should always explicitly list some expensive items such as jewelry, art, or expensive bikes. You need to talk to your insurance company regarding the "exclusions" of your personal property items.
